Nyanga is probably the most popular local destination in Zimbabwe for the festive season with its rolling, misty mountains, crystal clear streams and Festive season atmosphere; it oozes all things "Family".
If hot drinks by the fire, indoor or outdoor family games, getting out and exploring the mountains together or just relaxing and getting lost in a book is what you are looking for over the festive season then Nyanga is the spot for you.
With a selection of a few personal favourites, from the SkyDeck Mountain Retreat that is fully exclusive, winding down to Aberfoyle Lodge tucked into the Honde valley and the various self-catering options at Far and Wide Zimbabwe, there is a range of accommodation to suite all families and budgets.
Kariba is predominantly known as a great New Year's destination and can be baking hot over the festive season but is super popular with great activities and loads of great accommodation options. These options do however get booked up quickly so best to pre-book in advance.
Expect days full of fishing and ice-cold sun downers overlooking the lake with picnics on the banks and time spent by the pool.
From Fothergill Island where one can book the exclusive use of the whole Island, to the iconic houseboat trips filled with days cruising around the Lake, there is a variety of options available.
Victoria Falls is obviously a foreign visitor's dream for the festive season however we believe this year with Covid still causing uncertainty, the affordable rates may attract more locals.
So if you are looking for adrenaline activities, sunset river cruisers, game drives, a bustling tourist town and some funky atmosphere then get down to the falls.
A top recommend of ours is Old Drift Lodge, set in the National Park and along the river banks of the Zambezi, which offers family friendly accommodation and a great vibe. There is of course a great range of accommodation in the falls that varies from All-Inclusive, Bed & Breakfast to Self Catering accommodation.
Matobo Hills and Hwange

Have you missed the bush the whole year or need some inspiring heritage and cultural vibes then look no further than these two stunning destinations where you can get the sun-soaked Matobo setting and then move on to Zimbabwe’s biggest National Park.
Now for a fan-favorite for those 'in-the-know' and one we are sure loads of people have missed - Mozambique. Either Inhassoro or Vilanculous are great festive season getaways that ooze paradise with islands and crystal clear waters.
Your days here will be filled of the beach, horse-back rides, swimming, snorkeling and fishing. A bustling tourist vibe and voted one of the best, somewhat un-explored destinations in Africa that is accessible to all once the borders have opened.
