This rustic tented camp situated on a private concession bordering the Hwange National Park is everything you need and so much more. Tucked away in the African Bush amongst the hardwood trees and wildlife, it provides your soul with peace and allows you to appreciate the environment while you relax and slip deeper into nature.
The camp is easily accessible a few kilometers off the main Hwange road close to the Wild Dog Sanctuary. We arrived and were warmly welcomed with drums, smiles, and a refreshing drink by the manager and one of their guides. After a short briefing, we were shown to our tented rooms built with an eco-friendly idea, stunning spacious bedroom, all the amenities, comfortable beds, and an en suite unique tented bathroom. The atmosphere takes you to the lost times of exploring the African bush and gives you a feeling of being one with the noises and vibrance of the bush all around you.
We met Terry, one of the owners that night, and found he has an infectious passion for the bush and his camp. We can only imagine that he has poured blood sweat and tears into it and the area. We make a point of getting to know the passionate managers and owners of camps and lodges as it makes us feel at home and fall in love with the places we stay as if we helped be a part of it even if it is just for a day or two.
The camp offers game drives, walking, and horse safaris making it unique in its activity offerings. Terry took us on our walking safari and pointed out everything from the smallest details on the smallest creatures to the towering trees and their stories. He gave us an experience that was a true reminder of why we live in and love Zimbabwe and how fortunate we are. The Game drive was also an adventure, we got to see hundreds of elephants, baby jackals, our first African Pole Cat (skunk), thousands of spring hares, and a few other unique birds and sightings. A safari-style game drive is a must at any camp you visit.
The central area is where most of our time was spent while in camp, it is the perfect place to catch a beautiful sunrise, spend the day relaxing by the pool, interacting with other guests, or watching the animals come and go from the watering hole. The elephants may even join you for a sundowner by the pool. There is no shortage in the variety of wildlife that can be seen just from the deck.
The chef provided delicious meals throughout our stay, and we were delighted by his gestures of making sure we were enjoying his food. The Staff at any lodge or camp are an essential part of its operation and making guests stay the best. Iganyana staff were great, always happy to help or point you in the direction of where we could find help.
Being close to Hwange National Parks, guests have the pleasure of exploring the park or the concession. Self-drive is a great option into the park if you, we also highly recommend a visit to the painted dog conservancy, they are doing a fantastic job.
Special thanks to Terry Anders, who made our stay very personal and went over and beyond for us, we fell in love with Iganyana.
